Jenny Detra with Good Cookin' - September 3, 2009
I am happy to announce that in addition to performing solo, I will be singing accompanied by a new band "Good Cookin'. This is the band I have been waiting for for a long time. Comprised of Jim Keefer on bass, Tom Szambecki on keys, Ken Sager on mandolin, dobro and guitar and Corey Rolfe on drums, ' Good Cookin' lives up to its name. These guys can REALLY cook. Our repertoire includes a blend of jazz, blues, classic rock and originals. For those of you who are thinking "mandolin"? you will just have to come out and hear what Ken can do on the thing - he flat out wails. Ken is equally proficient on the guitar, dobro, lap steel, even the violin. (basically, the guy can play about anything that has strings). Jim Keefer, our bass player is known locally as one of the best players in town (In my book, THE best bass player in town) Jim has the ability to turn an instrument that is usually relegated to rhythm status into a solo instrument. Those of you who are locals, may remember his band "Keefer Madness". Tom Szambecki is also an alumni of Keefer Madness, as well as the band "Built For Comfort". We coaxed Tom out of retirement for this project. Tom alternately tickles and tears up the keys with finesse as well as passion. His playing is a blast to experience. Last, but certainly not least, holding it all together is Corey Rolfe on the drums. Corey wields the brushes as well as the sticks with equal finesse all the while keeping it in the pocket. He is an extremely tasteful, sensitive player who understands the use of dynamics and can "stir the soup" one song and rock out on the next. If it isn't evident by now, I am not just proud, but honored to be sharing the stage with these guys. I hope those of you who read this will keep an eye out for our gigs and come out and see for yourself what amazing music these guys make.
